Heaven Can’t Wait

B-ZXXNGIUAAHTJu

Spoiler Alert! This is inspired by the Bible, my ever trusty, go-to inspiration for love, for restoration, for inspiration. There is a lot of rambling but I hope you guys can get past it to the story.

In a way, this is another installment in the “Love in Unexpected Places” series. Ideas are welcome…where are the best places to meet someone? Where did you meet him? Her?

It’s been a while I told a love story from  a man’s perspective. I love men that are sensitive. Please  even “Jesus wept”, what is your excuse??? LOL

There have been times I was left wondering. Wondering if this was all life had to offer. Wondering if somehow, somewhere, sometime, in another life maybe, I had done something terrible, something so unforgivable that the universe had chosen to forever hold it against me. Wondering if the bad in my life was always going to be commonplace and happiness, a rarity, like Christmas, like birthdays…

And then you came along.

Like a camel through the eye of a needle, like life on Mars, like impossible without the first two letters.

I had hoped but not dared to say it out loud. I had dreamed but not dared to turn my dreams into visions. I had wished upon a thousand shooting stars but never upon birthday candles. Hundreds of my coins have found their way into many a beggars purse but never into wishing wells….

How then could this have happened to me? How then could you have heard my cry, silent as it was? How then could my wishes have made it to heaven when I wished only upon stars falling to earth?

It won’t be long now. 15 hours, 27 minutes and 39 seconds to go actually; less than a day till you are mine forever and I am yours and the future is ours. Less than a day till I can kiss you for the first time, dream your dreams, wish your wishes…till I can say ‘I love you’ in the presence of everyone else.

I had a dream yesterday. That we met long before you found me at that roadside bookstore in Sabo . That we were playmates in heaven. That you were my best friend long before now. That we stole kisses while the angels God kept to watch over us pretended not to see. I had a dream that you held my hand before I left for earth and promised to find me. That I found one of the flaming stones that are never scarce in heaven and touched it to a spot above your left eyebrow to mark you as mine, so that I would know who you were when I found you again. I dreamed and I dreamed and then I awakened.

It has been five months to the date since we looked up from the dusty pages of second-hand books and you found me within the man that was my shell. Your father and my mother think we are rushing things. My father and your mother wink at us from behind their spouses, urging us to hold onto the heaven we have found with their smiles

Who would have thought that this could happen to me? A man who had been broken, not once, not twice, not thrice  but enough that I had run out of numbered reasons to be shy.

Like a camel through the eye of a needle, you walked into my life, lighting up every part of my life with the joy, putting back together the broken pieces of my heart with the glue that is your smile.

I used to wonder if I would ever make heaven, if I would ever get to see what those mansions God built looked like. I was the rich young man, lost, and unable to find my way back home and then when I finally did, I almost forgot to give it all up to lay hold of you.

Three months down the road to heaven and I bought you a ring. A day later, I took it back to the store and called you on my way back home to tell you you were better off without me. You laughed, dropped the phone, showed up at my apartment not even an hour later and asked me to marry you.

“Because heaven can’t wait…” You said.

I thought I knew what you meant then but waiting out the next 15 hours, 17 minutes and 19 seconds give your words new meaning.

We were supposed to write our vows. You have had yours down pat since that day I said “yes”. I have stared at my own blank sheet for two months and the words didn’t come. 15 hours, 15 minutes and 6 seconds left and I finally know what my vows will be.

“16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”

17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”

Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’

19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Because heaven can’t wait, today, I let go of all of my earthly possessions and hold onto to you

Because heaven can’t wait, I will walk through the eye of every needle for you

Because heaven can’t wait, I will be possible for you,

Today, tomorrow, till heaven can no longer wait.

Song of the day: Terence Trent D’arby – Holding onto you

    Wow!
    Such brilliant lines, those vows…
And no, there isn’t any spoiler alert…the bible is the greatest book of love, why then wouldn’t it be a source of inspiration for love stories?
